Spotlight on Idaho

Tax Refund

Idaho is one of the 36 states where commercial properties can get rebates for energy efficient lighting. Because of it's low electricity rate ($0.05 per kWh on average), Idaho might not seem likely to be a state at the forefront of energy efficiency, but in reality almost the whole state is covered by some type of rebate and many customers are taking advantage of these programs.

Ten weeks into 2009, Idaho Power, one of the larger utilities in the state, has reported that they've received nearly 200 preliminary applications for rebates. In that same time, more than 200 final applications have been processed for payment, equaling $660,000 this year so far! The program has already saved enough electricity to fully power more than 540 typical Idaho homes this year.

In Idaho alone, property owners are saving millions of dollars a year by taking advantage of these rebates. It's clear why they do; the rebates in Idaho are very attractive, ranging from around $18 for a T12 to T8 conversion, and up to $190 for replacing a metal halide with a T8 high-bay system.

Idaho serves as an example to show that even in states with low electricity rates, energy efficiency programs make sense and customers are actively taking advantage of them. Click here to learn more about rebate programs.
